This wonderful Victorian period signet locket ring is made from gold cased metal - a thick layer of gold over a base metal core, quite different to gold plated - and is set with a high quality polished bloodstone top which opens to reveal its internal locket compartment. The hinge and opening are extremely well hidden - near invisible in fact! And the hand engraved decoration around the stone is beautifully done and extremely subtle. Although there is slight wear through the gold to the band, the rest is in good condition, its a lovely chunky size and is extremely comfortable. It dates from around 1870, weighs 4.5 grams and the head measures 16 x 14 mm.The final photo shows it with a US penny (1 cent) coin for scale, which measures 19 mm / ¾ of an inch diameter.
