This sterling silver gold washed bracelet. Was made in the Mughal style, and was meant to be worn by an Indian bride on her wedding day, or a wealth British occupied India bride.

The bangle is very ornate; the edges of the bangle are bordered by rope twist and granulated bead designs, with hollow domes running along the center of the bangle. The domes are made of filigree and rope twist shapes, and have applied discs and flower details over the top of the filigree, so the swirling patterns just barely peek through. Atop each dome is a granulated bead, adding height and dimension to the bracelet.

The central design of the bracelet features a gold washed rectangular panel, on top of which sits a hand-wound filigree flower, with applied discs and flower details. At the center of the flower is a raised bezel, which holds a rose cut diamond.

The diamond is 0.40 carats, and is a sparkling clear color. The clasp has been incorporated into this section; an ornate screw barrel, with stacked graduated granulated beads extending above and below the panel on which the flower is centered. This stunning bangle was made in celebration of love, and would make an excellent gift for that special someone. Don't forget to check out the matching wedding bracelet we have for sale!

There is some wear on the gold wash, and the Sterling Silver shows in small areas, but this does not affect the wear or appearance of the bangle. One of the domes are missing their granulated bead toppers. The price has been adjusted to reflect this. Please take this into consideration before. This was very true due to the gorgeous designs that came out of this period.

This era focused on women and the beauty of nature and the pieces were often large. Enamel was a common material used in Art Nouveau jewelry as the period was more about the importance of the design over the materials used to create it. The Art Nouveau period happened before the start of the first world war, when mass manufacturing took over production of many products, including some jewelry. During the Mughal rule in India, which began in the 16th century, the art of jewelry making flourished.

Wearing expensive jewelry marked one's position. Emperors and empresses as well as courtiers and other people of high ranks were adorned with heavy jewelry beset with massive stones and beads. Various jewellers were hired privately to create magnificent jewelry pieces for the royal family and other important people.

Rajasthan, a northwestern state of India, served as an exclusive hub for jewelry-making. The Mughal royalty often formed alliances with the Rajput rulers and married Rajput princesses. As a result, Mughal jewelry was further influenced by the Rajputs, and thus began the combination of Rajput quaint craftsmanship and Mughal delicate artistry.

Some Mughal jewelry pieces were also influenced by 17th-century European Renaissance fashion. Filigree metal working is a delicate form of art has been found as early as 3,000 BC in Mesopotamia.

It was perfected by the Phoenicians and Etruscan civilizations between the 6th and 3rd centuries BC. It involves stamping out a design in metal and hand bending and twirling threads, combined with tiny beads, until a final motif emerges. It is reminiscent of lace and considered one of the most difficult metal working processes. Filigree is still a very popular technique in India and Asia.

Rose cut diamonds have been made for hundreds of years. They date back to the 1500s but really gained popularity during the 1700s and were used until about 1840 when they were replaced with the Mine cut diamond. Rose cut diamonds are unique in the way that they are one of the last types of stones to feature hand cleaved facets on the stone. These stones are meant to look rough as a stone cutter would hand cleave the facets by cutting the diamond with another diamond.

They are highly prized and sought after in today's market due to their rarity as most of these stones were lost or re-cut into more modern cuts.
