Very unique carved moonstone baby's face with rose-cut diamonds on the brim of the bonnet, 14k yellow and white gold, ring. Circa Georgian to Victorian Era. The moonstone face measures approx 6.5mm x 10mm and is extremely unique and it is apparent that a highly regarded artist crafted this piece. The metal is gold that is tested and guaranteed 14k. Total weight: 2.7 grams.
There has been some change to the ring over the past 150 years or so. It was not uncommon back then to convert (re-purpose) jewelry, I believe this to have been re-purposed from a brooch (or stick pin) to a ring. The period between late Georgian to Victorian the hand-carved moonstone artistry was a highly regarded luxury. I have only come across a handful of similar examples to this piece and they are priced very high while the craftsmanship is not nearly as good. It is a testament to fine jewelry of that period. This is my favorite and most interesting piece of jewelry! Please see pictures as they represent most of the description.
